George the Dragon Slayer

This icon shows the famous story of Saint George and the dragon. The dragon ravaged the city by demanding a virgin for dinner every day. If the city did not feed the dragon, everything would be destroyed by fire. One day fate decreed that the prince's daughter was next to be sacrificed. George came and offered to help the monarch by slaying the dragon. He ordered the princess to put the dragon on a leash. At that moment, Joris pierced the dragon with his lance and the city was saved.
